10 Best Side Characters In The MCU

2. Nick Fury (The Avengers)

If Coulson was the initial glue that held them all together Fury was the cement that dried around them and locked them into place.

From his very first appearance, showing up in the end-credits scene of Iron Man and telling Tony Stark he was part of a larger universe, Fury has remained an ominous and elusive character who keeps us wanting more. Even in later films where he and his S.H.I.E.L.D. organization got a more proper spotlight, remarkably little was revealed about Fury himself.

So he is certainly a mystery, but he is also a bona fide hero in his own right. He gets a couple of action beats between the two Avengers films but his standout sequence as of yet was the car assault in Winter Soldier. There, we got the rare glimpse of Fury caught completely off-guard and having to act solely based on instinct and it was wonderful to watch.

As of right now, we are in a bit of a Fury drought. The last time we saw old eye-patch-McGee was in Age of Ultron, which feels like decades ago. But with his confirmed involvement in Captain Marvel and likely involvement in at least one of the upcoming Avengers films, here's hoping we get to see some more of what Fury is capable of.
