10 Best Stephen King Cameos
7. Diner Patron - Mr. Mercedes
Mr Mercedes is a series that aired between 2017 and 2019. Based on Stephen King's Bill Hodges Trilogy (Mr Mercedes, Finder's Keepers and End of Watch), the series follows Brendan Gleeson's detective, Bill Hodges, as he and serial killer rival, Harry Treadaway's Mr Mercedes, engage in a psychologically haunting game of cat and mouse. The series received critical acclaim and captured the essence of the novels.
Making it feel like an honour, Stephen King has a brief, blink and you'll miss it cameo in the 6th episode of the first season, called "People in the Rain". Here, the sinister Mr Mercedes is in a diner, talking to others when he has a vision. A vision of bodies and blood all over the diner. As he looks around, transfixed by the carnage, his gaze ends on the diner counter.
We see Stephen King there. Dead. His body hanging over the counter and a carving knife sticking out of his bloody, mangled shoulder. It's good, gory stuff. A haunting image that gives us another insight into the mind of the killer.
This cameo is mostly just a fun easter egg. It is impossible to deny that it is fun to see Stephen King laying there with some very impressive make-up in this grizzly scene. The camera lingering on him tell us that the creators knew what they were doing. It is a memorable part in a very underrated adaptation to three of King's most underrated books.
