10 Best Stephen King Cameos
3. Jordy Verrill - Creepshow
Creepshow is one of the best horror films of the 1980's. It is a dream come true; a horror anthology movie, written by Stephen King and directed by the genius master of horror cinema, George A. Romero.
The five stories are all wonderfully weird, and will have laughing and screaming all at once. It is a one of a kind experience that not even its own sequels could replicate. Name any other film that has Leslie Neilson of all people play a truly unsettling villain. But one of the more memorable of the stories is "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill", the second of the five.
Who else would be playing the titular Jordy Verrill than the main man himself? A dim-witted redneck type who finds a meteor on his farm land, both Jordy and his farm succumb to an alien weed that grows and consumes at an alarming rate. Of all the stories in Creepshow, this is the most comical. Again, King is an author first, not an actor, so having him just play it silly was the best call.
Infinitely quotable and superbly directed, Jordy's tragic fate is one of the greatest (if most unfortunate) moments in 80's horror. All worth it to see a baffled Stephen King, dressed in dungarees hollering "Holy smokes!" as a glowing meteor hits his farm. That's the stuff classics are made of.
Bonus point to Creepshow for also having Stephen King's son, Owen, play the vicious little kid in the film's prologue.
