10 Best Stephen King Cameos
2. Cemetery Caretaker - Sleepwalkers
If you haven't watched Sleepwalkers yet, do so now! This film is so bafflingly bad, so poorly judged and executed that it deserves to seen for the unintentional masterpiece that it is.
A story about a pair of incestuous werecats who drain the life-force of young virgin girls (let that sink in), Sleepwalkers starts off bizarre, before turning into a joyfully messy and unintentionally hilarious gore-fest. Directed again by Mick Garris, it's safe to say that you shouldn't be looking for high art with this one.
There are countless cameos in this film - including Mark Hamill, Ron Perlman, Joe Dante and John Landis. It should come as no surprise then that Stephen King got in on the action. He plays the Cemetery Caretaker, in a scene after the attempted murder of the female lead, where he walks between the cops to tell them his side of things.
Not only is this great because King introduces the audience to other horror legends, with cameos from Tobe Hooper, the creator of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Clive Barker, the creator of Hellraiser. But it also feels like King's most honest cameo to date.
As he tells these horror icons and the film's main characters that "It's not my fault," and "I'm not taking the wrap for this," it's almost like he's letting us know that he is washing his hands of this. That he only wrote the script and that things have gotten away from him. If true, that makes it all the sweeter.
