10 Best Superhero Movies Of The 80s

5. The Toxic Avengers

Batman 1989
Troma Entertainment

In yet another functional predecessor to a modern day fan-favorite, the Toxic Avenger was basically the 80s version of Deadpool. Melvin Ferd was initially a 98 pound janitor who got bullied to within an inch of his life by a group of customers at the health club where he worked. As they chase him throughout the facility, he runs straight out a window and lands on a pile of toxic waste, transforming him into Harley Quinn…I mean Toxic Avenger, he becomes the Toxic Avenger.

The chemicals turn him into a hideous creature with enhanced size and strength. Despite the loss in looks, he makes full use of his newfound brawn, fighting and brutally eliminating the town’s criminals. He also gets his revenge of his former tormentors, humiliating, hurting and even killing one of them.

This journey of crime fighting allows him to discover his true purpose, find love and even take on the real of source of crime in the city - the bloody mayor. Toxie overcomes all of them, leaving a trail of blood and guts in the process. Aside from the vicious punches, the movie also does not hold back on its dark comedy, making this a true hard-hitting spectacle.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
