10 Best Superhero Movies Of The 80s

3. RoboCop

An all-time classic, this ones needs very little introduction. The name RoboCop is one of the most well known in all of pop culture and it all began with this movie in 1987.

It tells the story of a Detroit that has been nearly overtaken by crime and financial ruin. To save the day, corporate powerhouse Omni Consumer Products proposes a new brand of policemen; robots. Needless to say this is a proposition that’s never gone according to plan and on the very first trial run for these ED-209 robots, one of them kills a company executive.

However this still did not spell the end of the initiative as another official suggested an alternative of his own – the RoboCop. This dubious honor of the first human-cyborg officer was to go to Alex Murphy. One of the few remaining genuine defenders of the law, Murphy and his partner Lewis were tracking a notorious crime ring when they were ambushed. Murphy is brutally gunned down and dies afterward. Seizing the opportunity, the OCP people use Murphy’s body to create their first robotic policeman.

This kicks off a series of amazing action encounters, with bullets and swear words flying left, right and center. At first Murphy is simply a lifeless criminal killing machine. Slowly though, he starts regaining his old memories and humanity. After reuniting with Lewis, he is able to track down the people who killed him, setting up an amazing third act that leaves the audience at the edge of their seats.
