10 Best Supernatural Horror Movies Of The Last Decade
9. Ghost Stories
Based on the 2010 stage play, Ghost Stories is an intriguing romp through grief and trauma. The story is almost an anthology, giving us three different ghost stories, with each one gradually wearing down the sceptic lead Phillip Goodman.
The film has some brilliantly atmospheric sequences, with each different story lending itself to a different element of horror. The first leans into modern horror tropes such as jump scares and a lack of noise. The second plays on monster movie tropes and manages to build up a huge amount of tension, whereas the final sequence is heavily influenced by psychological thrillers.
The performances across the board are brilliant, specifically from Paul Whitehouse and Andy Nyman. Every actor manages to bring something interesting to their characters, which all ties into the final act. Without giving away spoilers, the conclusion to Ghost Stories is a brilliantly fresh twist on the typical horror film.
