10 Best Supernatural Horror Movies Of The Last Decade
8. Sinister
Okay... So Bagul isn't the best name for a horror villain. Does that make Sinister any less awesome? Nope!
This 2013 flick starred Ethan Hawke as a true crime author who moves into a house where some horrific crimes have taken place. This leads him into an investigation of various VHS tapes, each one more disturbing than the last. What makes Sinister a horror great is its storytelling. The film opens with one of the most disturbing one shots in horror cinema. From there, the tension and intrigue only escalate.
Sinister wears its heart on its sleeve. Director Scott Derrickson manages to weave both a mystery and scares together into a seamless narrative with unexpected twists and turns throughout. Despite a few moments of odd CGI, the practical effects in the film, and Bagul's design in particular, stand out and are almost iconic at the point.
It is a shame that people do not talk about Sinister as much as they should, but if you haven't seen this gem... you're missing out!
