2. The Edge Of Seventeen

The Edge of Seventeen is a near miracle of a film, being both brutally funny and brutally sad and never having to sacrifice one for the other. What starts as a simple story of a teenage girl dealing with the fallout of a friendship ends up being one of the most accurate depictions of teenage loneliness and depression we've had in a long, long time.

A huge part of that is thanks to Hailee Steinfeld, who plays the protagonist Nadine so well the film almost feels like a documentary of a real teenager sometimes. No matter how long Steinfeld's acting career lasts, this role will always go down as one of her greatest performances.

But above all, it's thanks to writer-director Kelly Fremon Craig that this film is so good. Because of her witty writing and sharp eye for adolescent behavior, The Edge of Seventeen is not only one of the most realistic high school films out there, it's also one of the funniest.

This is a film that just gets it. It gets just how lonely, awkward, and even hilarious growing up can be. You’re guaranteed to see yourself in this film, no matter how old you are.
