10 Best Tom Hardy Performances (So Far)

8. Bob Saginowski - The Drop

Bronson Tom Hardy
Fox Searchlight Pictures

Tom Hardy stars opposite James Gandolfini in what turned out to be the Sopranos’ star’s final movie role.

Hardy plays the role of Bob Saginowski, an unassuming bartender that gets caught up in the criminal underworld after a robbery gone wrong, along with his cousin Marv, played by Gandolfini.

The Drop isn’t your typical gangster movie, it is more of a character-based drama that shows that people can’t simply be categorised as good guys and bad guys, some people need to do whatever it takes to survive in their world.

Stepping away from some of his more intense characters, Hardy plays Bob as a far more softer and likeable person, garnering sympathy from the audience as he is thrust into a situation he is desperate to avoid.

The film is widely known for being the aforementioned final role of the late, great James Gandolfini, but it also features one of Tom Hardy’s most underappreciated performances.
