6. The Yellow King – True Detective

The first season of True Detective was an amazing one, with its main characters moving forward, haunted and partly destroyed by their past. What kept the show going, through obsession and hate, was the seemingly imaginary villain called the Yellow King. This villain drove viewers and his victims crazy, and lived in a mysterious maze shrouded in satanic references, evil acts, and a lingering creepiness that stayed with us throughout. The killer turned out to be an inbred, hillbilly serial killer who enjoyed killing women and children, and mowing laws.

Glenn Freshler fit right in to the role, and delivered the perfect image of this sick, twisted character viewers had learned to hate before they’d even seen him. Expectations were met when we were finally shown the Yellow King.

I like to think of myself as a world traveler and social butterfly, although I do spend a lot of my time watching the latest Japanese anime series, sitcoms, movies, and drama series. I live on the island of Crete, where I was born, and enjoy walking on the beach with my little cocker spaniel, Molly, when I'm not writing for WhatCulture.com and UNILAD.co.uk.
