3. Toy Story
No rundown of toys in the movies would be complete without Pixar's ingenious franchise, which for over two decades has treated audiences to the exploits of cowboy Woody (the aforementioned Tom Hanks) and his supposedly inanimate friends. The series has racked up three cinematic adventures so far, in addition to various specials, with a fourth flick due in a couple of years. The characters have dealt with the growing up of young owner Andy, tussling with rogue toy collectors along the way, and learned to adjust to each others' differences in the process. The last instalment had them coming to terms with a new existence. This clever depiction of the toy world has mirrored the experience of its young viewers facing the impending building blocks of life, and shows no signs of running out of batteries. It also cocks a snook at the big beasts of the business through its portrayal of airheaded "must have" astronaut Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen).
