10 Best Vampire Films Of All Time

9. The Lost Boys

The Lost Boys is about as 80s as it comes, and seeing as the 80s renaissance is still just about going, it’s the perfect vampire movie to watch for Hallowe’en 2020.

The Lost Boys “updates” the tropes surrounding vampirism through the medium of a teen motorbike gang. The leader of the gang, David, is played by 24’s Kiefer Sutherland. For his weird bleached mullet alone, this movie is worth a watch. But, of course, there’s more.

The name of the film refers to the Lost Boys in Peter Pan – children that refuse to grow up. In a sense, vampirism here is representing a sort of counter-culture movement within the youth of the 80s.

The punk clothing, reckless behaviour, and – let's not forget – the vampiric homicide, is a way for the teens to rebel against society; against the monotony that comes from living in an otherwise idyllic California town.

A link to this is even shown when Michael, the protagonist, mentions his mum was a hippie in the 60s – one of the biggest counter-culture movements in the 20th century.

The vampires themselves are fun-loving heathens living in a sunken hotel, that might be one of the coolest death-nests in cinema.

If you like your vampires serious (á la Let the Right One In) then this may not be for you. But if you’re all about cheesy lines, big hair, and a killer soundtrack, then The Lost Boys might just be your perfect vamp movie.
