10 Best Vampire Movies Of The 2000s
4. Night Watch (2004)
Night Watch is a 2004 Russian movie which takes the classic lore of vampirism and throws it into modern day Moscow. Epic in scope and perfectly balancing horror with a large dose of historical fantasy, it's a haunting and refreshing take on vampires.
The plot has all the makings of a great and fantastical epic: Hundreds of years ago, the forces of light and dark made a truce following a vicious and casualty-heavy war, and ever since then forces of darkness (the vampires) have roamed in the night whilst the forces of light have roamed in the day.
It is said, though, that their feud will come to an end when a powerful being called "The Great Other" will come down and chose a side, ending the war in his or her favour.
A clever and refreshing take on both history and mythology, Night Watch is full of great performances, well-done special effects and effective horror, and uses its premise to create an entire world that really deserves to be explored more.
In any case, Night Watch is a solid stand alone movie with enough blood and prophetic confrontations to make it one of the genre's most refreshing and epic tales.
