7. Ego
Villains can be defeated in a number of different ways. The likes of Adrian Toomes and Zemo were sent to prison for what they did, the Red Skull and apparently Darren Cross were sent to another world, and someone like Ghost was almost reformed.
For a villain like Ego however, none of the above would have done. This was the kind of antagonist that absolutely had to be killed to be stopped. A prison wouldn’t have held him, and there was no way he was about to be reformed.
He simply had to die and there was only one way to do it. In amongst the chaos of Ego being an actual living planet, his son sharing the same power the light granted him, and the Sovereign showing up, it was down to Baby Groot to plant the bomb on Ego’s brain.
Against all odds, the little guy did it. Ego’s physical form was stopped from reaching the bomb in time by Peter, in what was unbelievably satisfying revenge for what he did to Meredith Quill, and the galaxy was saved by the Guardians once again.
