In 1993, the highly successful Batman: The Animated Series was spun-off into a standalone film featuring many of the voices from the series, including Kevin Conroy’s Batman and Mark Hamill’s Joker. Just as the series was haled as being possibly the best iteration of the superhero put to screen, the film also goes the route of the “World’s Greatest Detective” by giving us a very appetising whodunit.

Crime bosses in Gotham City are being killed off by a dark figure known as the Phantasm. Batman investigates the crimes and comes up with a list of possible suspects, but even the caped crusader falls for many red herrings in this well-plotted mystery.

As more bodies pile up (a lot of people die in this movie for kids!), one of the crime bosses even enlists the help of the one and only Joker to catch the Phantasm before he becomes another victim. And you just know once the Clown Prince of Crime gets involved, things are about to go off the rails.
