10 Best Winter Themed Horror Films

7. The Children

Wind Chill Emily Blunt
Vertigo Films

The Children is a 2008 British horror movie that has creepy scenes and dark themes in droves. Written and directed by Tom Shankland and starring Eva Birthistle, Hannah Tointon and Stephen Moore, the film was met favorably by critics upon release.

This offering follows a large family gathering over the New Year period, as they meet up to celebrate and enjoy the festivities together. With the time of year being what it is, the air is chilly and snow falls heavily. The family get-together soon turns sinister and frightening as it becomes apparent the children present are beginning to act strangely, with ever-increasingly disturbing behavior. As the film twists and turns, death and disease plague the family holiday.

Violent, gory and chilling to watch, The Children is certainly a worthy contender in this list of winter horror gems. Against the backdrop of winter weather, victim after victim fall prey to the once-innocent children. Yet who or what is causing the children to turn into such savages? You'll have to watch to find the answers.
