10 Best 'Worst' Movies Of 2017 (So Far)

Never underestimate the Michael Bay effect – if his Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies can make billions at the box office, then the door is open for any brand to follow in his wake.

Based on the fondly remembered (it says here) TV show, Power Rangers is so reminiscent of the Bay blueprint that you’ll be searching for his name in the credits, desperate to know if he had any input into this formulaic tale of cute teens who encounter monsters, slumming character actors, and lots of expensive special effects.

He didn’t, but the combination of large-scale action set pieces and contributions from actors you thought were above this sort of thing (Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Banks) is easier to take here than in any of the Transformers sequels. At a “mere” 124 minutes, it’s also a good half-hour shorter, so if you want cheesy fun that eschews Bay’s usual mean jokes, knock yourself out.
