10 Big 2018 Movies You Should Be Worried About

Reason To Be Worried: Johnny Depp as Grindelwald.

Can Johnny Depp single-handedly spoil a movie? Yes.

Tim Burton's Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Mortdecai. Alice In Wonderland, and its 2016 sequel. His overly eccentric performances regularly fall into the 'annoying' category, with the actor often unable to dial down the cringe-factor and give his characters another personality trait besides 'bizarre'.

This shtick grew tiresome in all the aforementioned movies, and it could very well do the same in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them 2, which will see Depp reprise the role of Gellert Grindelwald after a brief cameo in last year's New York set wizarding adventure.

The sequel is set to be much darker than the first, exploring a bleak period in wizarding history that details the struggles of the magical community when faced with Depp's dark wizard, so here, the actor's wacky comedy routine would feel even more misplaced than usual.

Admittedly, we don't yet know how Depp will approach the role, with the first Fantastic Beasts not giving us much to go on. But what we do have to go on is the actor's prior filmography, and it doesn't exactly paint a convincing picture.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
