10 Big Actors Who Are Skipping Movies In 2018

Next Movie: Avatar 2 (2020)

Sigourney Weaver has been delivering consistently strong supporting performances for a handful of decades now, and given how regular a screen presence she's been since that first Alien movie in 1979, it's strange to note that she's taking the whole of 2018 off.

Of course, there's a pretty obvious explanation for this absence: it starts with "A" and ends with "vatar". The highest-grossing movie of all time is getting no less than four sequels, and Weaver has mentioned she'll be a part of all of them - despite her character dying in the first movie.

So while it's not clear how she'll appear in these movies, what is clear is that she has a lot of work to do. Her 2018 break is all down to scheduling; with Avatar's sequels currently filming (they have been since last year), Weaver simply has no time to star in and promote another project.

But luckily for her fans, her return in 2020 will be in one of the most high-profile blockbusters of all time - here's hoping the wait is worth it.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
