Iron Man, Thor and Captain America movies are in no short supply, but other key characters from the franchise have never been handed standalone adventures, no matter how much the fans may have clamoured for them.

At least one of those neglected heroes could get her chance to shine during Phase 4, as reports suggest Marvel Studios is finally moving ahead with a Black Widow film. Word has it that The Blacklist screenwriter Jac Schaeffer has been hired to pen Natasha Romanoff's long-overdue solo mission.

A Black Widow movie certainly has potential as it would give fans a peek into her shadowy beginnings, a dark past that has only previously been hinted at with vague references to Budapest and her time as a Russian spy.

Nat might not be the only existing MCU character to fly solo in Phase 4. Perhaps the likes of Hawkeye, Nick Fury and War Machine - characters who have been a part of the franchise since its formative films - will also have that same privilege.
