10 Big Films From 2013 You've Probably Already Forgotten About

7. Escape From Planet Earth

U.S. Release Date: February 15th What was this about again? A 3D computer-animated comedy about a beloved astronaut who finds himself trapped after he responds to an SOS from a notoriously dangerous planet. There used to be a time when a 3D computer-animated film was a big deal. Whenever Pixar or Dreamworks would come out with their latest film, families were guaranteed to line up. In the past few years, however, other studios have caught up to the technology. Nowadays, these films are a dime a dozen. Still, before "Escape From Planet Earth" came out this February, the last 3D computer-animated film that was released was "Wreck-It Ralph" that previous November. "Escape From Planet Earth" was released on Valentine's Day weekend, surely a nice alternative to a generic Nicholas Sparks movie and a fifth Die Hard movie, right? Not exactly. The animated film barely made much of a dent at the box office, despite being released to over 3,000 theaters nationwide. It's even worse when you find out that The Weinstein Company had this movie in development since 2007 and were even threatened with a lawsuit by the film's producers. The movie's worldwide box office intake did manage to surpass its budget, but in a year where we had "The Croods", "Monsters University", "Epic", "Turbo," "Despicable Me 2", and "Frozen," you can't blame anyone for forgetting about this one. I'm sure if you asked a kid if they remember "Escape From Planet Earth," you would not get much more than a confused shrug.
