3. They're In Another Layer Of The Game - Existenz

The Twist: After the first reveal that most of the movie's events have merely been part of a video game called "tranCendenZ", Allegra (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and Ted (Jude Law) pull weapons and shoot the game's designer dead. They then turn their attentions to the man who played the part of the Chinese waiter in the game, and as they point their guns at him, he asks whether they're still in the game. Neither Allegra nor Ted appears to conclusively know the answer, which along with the bizarre reactions of everyone in the room suggests that they are merely in another "layer" of the game.

Why It's Obvious: Much like The Game's twist, this is a reveal hiding in plain view. The movie's title even makes it clear that the movie is likely going to test our perceptions of what's real and what isn't. Though audiences may not have expected a double-twist after the first reveal, more savvy viewers with a knowledge of classic sci-fi should have been able to see this coming. Again though, the film's pretty good, so it just about gets away with it.
