10 Big Movies That Suffered Even Bigger Disasters Whilst Being Made

It's no shock that to make a film based on one of the most dangerous expeditions of all time would be no joy ride. Everest was released in 2015, based on the summit mission of 1996 that killed over half of the explorers that ventured down from the mountain in a catastrophic storm.

The real filming did not actually capture the actors reaching the peak of the highest mountain in the world, but they still experienced many of the locations on the way, and endured a multitude of extreme conditions. Some of the nearby locations reached minus twenty degrees celsius as the cast and crew tried to make the action look as realistic as possible.

A team of film shooters for the production were given access to one of Everest's base camps only to experience an avalanche whilst there. No fatalities were reported from the crew itself, but a few supply deliverers and guides were taken down.

The cast took on many hikes before the movie began to endure stamina for the more intense scenes and the head cinematographer volunteered himself on many occasions to shoot in dangerous situations, including hanging from a helicopter and off a cliff edge, to immersing himself for hours in freezing snow.
