The issue of trying to make a more serious comic book movie that also features a gigantic rock creature made out of Billy Elliot was always going to be a difficult one to handle for even the most skilled of film-makers. And it's not like you could just ignore one of the major characters in the interest of doing something more Nolan-like with the series. So how do you solve a problem like Ben Grimm? Hopefully the film won't go with the same Beauty & The Beast subtext explored in the original adaptation, instead hinting at Ben's enduring humanity in more subtle ways. As an answer to fears that they might, this Grimm looks a lot less human than the Michael Chiklis version: he's bigger and rockier, and it doesn't seem he will be able to "blend in" by wearing a trench coat and hat. It would seem this version of the character is going to be a lot more monster-like, including this flash of him breaking out of what appears to be a cocoon. Is this how he sleeps?
