10 Biggest Blockbuster Movie Disappointments Of 2013

9. Pacific Rim

pacificrim-amazingcastBudget: $190 million As I waited in line with my buddies, we were all excited for Pacific Rim. When we left, we all had the same reaction, "thought it'd be better." Pacific Rim is a movie about monsters named kajiu rising up through the ocean in an attempt to take over Earth. Our response? Giant robots. In theory it sounds pretty badass but in reality it was kind of underwhelming. The kajiu vs robot battles were fun to watch but other than that, there wasn't much substance. The main character is Raleigh (Charlie Hunnam) who plays a robot pilot. Early on in the movie, his brother dies in battle and he goes rogue. Eventually he comes back for one last mission to stop the kajiu for good. The predictability of this movie is it's downfall. You can see the ending coming from a mile away and the characters don't throw you for any surprises. The movies trailers and build up were more exciting then the movie itself. I would love to say otherwise but I just can't. As far as profitability goes, the movie absolutely TANKED in US theaters. Grossing just over 100 million dollars to date. Unfortunately, it dominated the market overseas so the outcome of a second movie is highly likely. Will I watch it? Probably, but I'll definitely lower my expectations the next time around.
