7. G.I. Joe Retaliation
Budget: $130 million Now let me start off by saying that I didn't hate G.I. Joe Retaliation, I just didn't think it was very good. It's biggest problem? Hype. They marketed this thing like it was the greatest movie ever. Then they had a small screening and fanboys were outraged by the early death of Channing Tatum so they were forced to do some reshoots. THEN someone had the brilliant idea of turning a non 3D movie into one. With all that being said, G.I. Joe Retaliation came out 8 months after it's scheduled date. The movie itself had very little do with the first one. It wasn't a sequel by any means. The premise was simple, The Joe's get set up by the bad guys and they're all killed. All except Roadblock (The Rock) and a few others. Roadblock and his running mates set forth to find out who's behind the master plan. With help from the original 'Joe' (Bruce Willis, give me a break) they sought after the impostor portraying the US President. Everything about the movie seemed far too cliche. From the planning, to the gun fights. It seemed like they were really trying to get over The Rock's character, maybe in a desperate plea for a possible spin off (lets hope not). And as a huge Rock fan, it hurts me to say that but it's the truth. It felt like movie was just going through the motions. No twist, no turns, just a bland story with an uninspiring outcome. Lets face it, anyone of us could've written the same script in 20 minutes. Fortunately my validation for the disapproval of this movie is proven in the numbers (Creditable journalism? Hardly). It LOST money in the States, however once again, the foreign market saved yet another movie disaster. Bu that's why there was an 8 month delay in order to convert some scenes over in 3D because the Asian market LOVES 3D movies. Without their support, this movie would've been on life support at best. Sorry Rock.
