The story of Peter Pan has been remade on film countless times, but few tend to match the success and/or quality of the original 1953 installment. Live-action versions of the tale have a varied history, with a somewhat successful attempt with 1991's Hook—which has since become a cult favorite—and a less successful stab in 2003 with P.J. Hogan's Peter Pan. So when Warner Bros. made another attempt in 2015, hopes were not high.

With a release date originally slated for July, the move to an October opening showed a lack in confidence that the film could perform against other summer blockbusters, despite a budget of $150 million plus around $125 million in marketing costs.

Even with a star-studded cast that included Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara, and Amanda Seyfried, it wasn't enough to muster more than $35 million domestically and a worldwide total of $128 million.

Total loss: $97 million
