10 Biggest Casting Mistakes In MCU History

3. Idris Elba (Thor Franchise)

Heimdall Thor
Marvel Studios

If ever there was a face that summed up a regretful decision, Idris Elba's in the latter stages of his MCU career would be it.

While his first performance as the all seeing protector of the Bifrost, Heimdall, in the original Thor led us to believe Marvel had performed another masterstroke in casting, there was more than meets the eye with this stellar acquisition.

Something went terribly wrong between Thor and it's sequel as Elba openly expressed his disdain in shooting the follow up. Citing the ridiculousness of shooting scenes involving 'fake hair stuck on to (his) head with glue' and being suspended in the air between takes for one particular sequence.

When you brand Marvel's shooting process as 'torture' and claim that it 'ripped your heart out', that doesn't exactly advertise a work place that other actor's would want to experience.

Heimdall's role would shrink in his next few contracted appearances, but Elba would still manage to let slip his cameo in Age of Ultron before the film was released.

Were the spoilers and slamming of production really worth Marvel or even Elba's trouble? What did he really add to the Marvel movies? Apart from an emotional hit to Thor in Endgame.
