10 Biggest Casting Mistakes In MCU History
2. Christopher Eccleston (Thor: The Dark World)
Man, Thor: The Dark World is responsible for a few howlers, isn't it?
From one Brit who clearly shouldn't have been anywhere near a Marvel movie, to another. Christopher Eccleston, to an American demographic, represents the man who brought Doctor Who back to life. Yet to us in Britain he is hailed as a national treasure who has tackled everything from working class roots to Macbeth himself.
You can see then why Eccleston would see an appeal in the Kenneth Branagh inspired world of Thor and the chance to play a villain opposite the Norse God (and earn himself a nice payday) would be too great to turn down.
However, anyone who has been exposed to The Dark World will attest to the film being a successor to Branagh's hit, in name alone. Eccleston likened his part in the film to him being a 'whore', referring to how he was paid money so he could be utilised in whatever way the studio saw fit - taking the money at the cost of his own dignity.
Eccleston even claimed that Marvel lied to him about the amount of make-up he would be covered up by in his depiction of The Dark Elf, Malekith.
It's yet another example of Marvel coming off as a studio who weren't transparent with their performers. Also, perhaps an actor more suited to the blockbuster landscape would've made for some healthier headlines.
