10 Biggest Clichés Of The Disney Renaissance

9. The Cute Animal Sidekick

If you are a pet owner, you probably consider your animal of choice to be one of your best friends. Maybe you have a morning stroke with your cat as you discuss your day's plans, or an evening vent whilst cuddling your doggo when those plans went wrong.

The renaissance heroes also have their own cutie who may not add much to the plot or character development, but will sure as heck make you giggle and buy your own soft toy version for a night-time squeeze.

These animals tend to be unable to talk despite having the sentience of intelligent life; decision that was probably made after the annoyance that was Flounder from The Little Mermaid.

Characters, such as Meeko the raccoon, Abu the monkey, and Pegasus the, well, Pegasus will serve as the hero's best friend, the princesses confidant/psychiatrist or maybe a bit of both.

Noticeably The Lion King doesn't have one. This is probably because in a world where all the animals can sing and dance, people may mistake a silent one who pulls faces and stuffs their face with food for a simpleton.
