10 Biggest Clichés Of The Disney Renaissance
4. The Radio Friendly Song That Works Out Of Context
When you think about it, the original Disney animated movies only featured a handful of songs here and there, and most of them were sung by unseen choirs.
The renaissance made sure to amp up the character song count, but would always have at least one catchy show-stopping anthem that works out of the context of the plot to get into people's heads and help sell the feature.
Of course, you can't pick any old song off the tracklist to produce as a stand-alone single. Frollo’s rendition of Hell Fire, a ballad of lust and damnation, is hardly going to be spun on the turntables at any junior disco parties.
So you need a song that will stand up on its own merits and be covered by a popular artist. Perhaps a love ballad of a tale old as time, or discovering a whole new world.
Even better, you get an artist to pen the lyrics as well as perform the single version, like Elton John for The Lion King or Phil Collins for Tarzan.
Not only does a catchy non-offensive tune give you radio play, but it also puts you in contention for that coveted best original song academy award.
