3. Battle With A Big Monster
It's all well and good having epic stories, catchy tunes and lovable characters, but sometimes the tale of a hero facing mammoth odds has to be literal, and sometimes audiences just want to see a good old fashioned action-packed rumble.
Not every Disney film features a battle with a big old beastie, but it's always great fun when they do. The original was probably Monstro the whale way back in 1940's Pinnochio, but the most famous is perhaps Maleficent transforming into the humungous dragon back in 1959’s Sleeping Beauty.
It was the latter that seemed to be the template for the renaissance era end battle, at least during the first half. Ursula would turn into a giant sea monster octopus version of herself, and Jafar transformed into a big old snake git.
They seemed to have dropped it later on in the era though. Perhaps these nightmarish titans were too scary for children. In all honesty, even with adult eyes, they can cause one to leave a damp spot.
The best monster baddie fight has to go to Hercules vs The Hydra. That battle sequence was the peak combination of traditional hand-drawn cells and digital animation, the likes we will probably never see again. This leads us to...
