He might be part of the X-Men team, but - for all their mistakes with getting him onto screen so far - Fox recognise that Gambit has the potential to exist in the same sort of space as Wolverine. He's marketable, cool and has huge potential to be another lucrative anti-hero.

That's why they're still pursuing the Channing Tatum project, despite it being well-past where most films would be classified as dead in the water. They know if they get it right that they can probably count on a good return.

Disney should think the same way and treat Gambit as an opportunity to show off with effects, as they did with Doctor Strange, along with the chance to have fun with another hero with bags of attitude. And they do seem to have a penchant for that character model in the MCU - it's almost a match made in heaven.
