9. How Big A Role Will Darkseid Play?
The “Knightmare” sequence from Dawn Of Justice showed DC have some kind of roadmap for where their cinematic universe will end up. It looks like there’s a grim future ahead for our heroes, since the planet becomes a post-apocalyptic wasteland patrolled by parademons, and ruled over by an evil Superman.
The presence of parademons naturally suggests iconic villain Darkseid is around somewhere and is probably the one who turned Superman to the, err, dark side. But the question is how involved will he be? With confirmation that Steppenwolf will appear – and likely be the main threat – that almost certainly means Darkseid will appear if only to set him up for future movies.
There’s speculation he’ll be teased out like Thanos for the MCU, which would probably be a mistake if DC want to avoid comparison with their rivals. Expect him to be pulling Steppenwolf’s strings, but he’ll likely be the main villain for a future Justice League movie.
