10 Biggest Missed Opportunities In MCU History

5. Edgar Wright's Ant-Man

In terms of movies that never got made, there's surely no missed opportunity more agonising than Edgar Wright's Ant-Man.

Wright was initially hired to write and direct the project way back in 2006, yet mere months before shooting was set to begin in the summer of 2014, Wright walked away due to "creative differences."

Though all parties have been relatively diplomatic about Wright's departure, the filmmaker did make it clear that he felt his vision for the movie was being curtailed by the demands of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that he no longer felt like he was making a movie of his own voice.

Wright was swiftly replaced with Peyton Reed - a safe choice who has delivered two solid yet relatively unremarkable Ant-Man movies, such that fans can't help but fantasise what Wright would've given us.

Test footage for the movie that Wright filmed in 2012 did eventually make its way online, and certainly provides a glimpse into the sort of visual ingenuity he would've brought to the fore.

Between Wright's kinetic filmmaking skill and penchant for witty writing, it's basically impossible not to feel like we all missed out on a vastly superior MCU movie due to his exit.
