10 Biggest Mistakes In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

8. Bromance 1: Romance 0

Iron Man 2 receives plenty of well-worn criticism, but one often-overlooked area of disappointment was the mishandling of Tony€™s relationship with Pepper Potts as she becomes sidelined by her newfound CEO status. Whereas these will-they-won€™t-they situations in movies generally tend to feel contrived, Marvel pitched this one just right in Iron Man but then failed to make the most of the relationship in the film€™s sequels. In truth, while Marvel excel at bromance €“ Tony and Rhodey/Banner, Cap buddying up with Falcon €“ romance is another matter. Thor is a perfect example of a romantic subplot feeling forced rather than organic as Natalie Portman€™s Jane falls for Thor in double-quick time for no obvious reason, and the shoehorning doesn€™t stop there. It might have been played out more effectively, but the onset of star-crossed lovers syndrome between Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter also seemed a bit sudden, and even Guardians Of The Galaxy threw in a pretty unnecessary element of romance between Peter Quill and Gamora. In fairness, kissy faces and googly eyes aren€™t exactly paramount among Marvel€™s list of priorities, but their track record on matters of the heart is far from perfect. In The Winter Soldier, the relationship between Cap and Black Widow was actually a damn sight more interesting for subverting expectation by avoiding the romance route, and hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
