10 Biggest Mistakes Suicide Squad Has Already Made
6. It Might Be A Little Bit Sexist
Yep, it didn't take long for feminists to start criticising the movie for its depiction of Harley Quinn in particular, with attention being drawn to Ayer's rather blatant male gaze in this shot, where the camera tracks on Quinn's derriere. This is in addition to some complaining that Enchantress' revealing black costume is a wildly unnecessary shift from her more covered-up appearance in the comics. Though these are both very divisive points for several reasons (namely that Quinn is dressed far more provocatively in the comics and Enchantress wasn't exactly dressed practically either), the problem is that they're going to end up as big talking points moving forward, as depictions of women in blockbuster movies is a hot-button topic online. The butt shot is pretty cringe-worthy, but it won't make or break the film on its own: it depends on how the females in the movie as a whole are depicted. But considering the contentious nature of the Joker-Harley relationship (which we'll cover in more detail momentarily), feminist critics are probably going to have plenty to be upset about.
