2. Empire Releases 25 X-Men: Days of Future Past Covers
Anticipation for Bryan Singer's return to the franchise he started (and the genre he helped revitalize) in the form X-Men: Days of Future Past is building, though fans are now worried about the outcome. Following an impressive teaser trailer and interesting viral marketing campaign, Singer has been slowly building excitement for the project and teased that we'd be getting a big reveal on Jan 25th. That reveal came in the form of the release of
25 Collectible Empire Magazine covers, released over the course of 24 hours, featuring the film's enormous cast. Unfortunately, most of the covers left fans reeling with disappointment, thanks to some truly egregious costume choices, the most notable of which being Quicksilver. The release of the covers turned what could have been a minor marketing misstep into a day-long debacle, as Twitter lit up with negative reactions to not only Quicksilver's duds, but to the design of the Sentinel Mark X, Toad, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, Havok, and the strange inclusion of Singer himself. Of course, costumes and character designs look a
lot different on screen than in a badly Photoshopped magazine cover, so hopefully Singer can still find success with his bloated mutant project when it hits theaters on May 23rd.
