6. David Fincher And James Ellroy To Team Up For 1950s Noir HBO Series

David Fincher David Fincher and author James Ellroy almost collaborated for an adaptation of Ellroy's novel The Black Dahlia in 2006, but Brian De Palma ended up making the film instead. Fincher and Ellroy stayed in touch, however, and may work together at long last on an exciting new project. According to The Playlist, Fincher and Ellroy "are talking to HBO and planning a noir-ish crime show set in L.A., in a similar 1950s milieu DC Comics DC Comics[/caption] Now that Guardians of the Galaxy has blown past $600 million at the worldwide box office ($300 million of which comes from the US alone), word on the street is that Warner Brothers is looking to cash in on its rival's success with outlandish, cosmic-based properties. According to Latino-Review, the studio is looking to place a film based on one of their own cosmic superhero teams, the Legion of Super-Heroes, into development. Here's what the site had to say about the rumor:
€œAccording to sources, Warners is quietly sending out the DC comic book Legion Of Superheroes to screenwriters & their reps for takes. For non-industry folks, what that means is that screenwriters check out the comic book and come up for a movie idea involving the characters from that comic. Those writers then go to the studio to pitch their idea. The studio then hires the screenwriter they feel has the best idea or take for the film.€
The Legion of Super-Heroes are a team of teenage heroes, set in the 30th and 31st centuries. They first debuted in 1958 and have gone through four or five big reboots over the years. The core members are magnetism-controlling Cosmic Boy, powerful telepath Saturn Girl, and Lighting Lad, who can (surprise!) generate electricity within his own body and shoot off lightning bolts. The Legion were also time travellers, and have a long working relationship with Superman. At this point in time, the studio has not weighed in on this news, so take it with a massive grain of salt. Even if a Legion film is in the works, it probably won't happen for a long time. After all, we're only one film deep into the new DC Cinematic Universe, with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, Shazam, and solo films for at least Wonder Woman and Aquaman on the way. Needless to say, WB has some ground to cover before jumping into their big futuristic cosmic adventure team-up film.
