Welcome, everyone, to another edition of the WhatCulture news brief. We have lots of good stuff to share with you this week, as studios kept us busy with casting updates, bizarre voice actor changes, and updates about Star Wars, Halo, and Quentin Tarantino. But before we jump in, let's take a quick gander at some honourable mentions that caught my eye:
Honourable Mentions
Frozen Is Now The Highest Animated Film Of All Time. I guess people just can't...
let it go. (Sorry I couldn't resist)
Jason Bateman Will Narrate An Upcoming LEGO Documentary. Why on Earth they didn't hire Morgan Freeman to do it will always baffle me. He's a Master Builder for crying out loud!
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Renewed For 2 More Seasons. Fans of the weirdest sitcom on TV rejoice! Charlie, Frank, Mac, Dennis, and Dee will be making us uncomfortable for a couple more years.
Samuel L. Jackson Says Frozone Will Return For The Incredibles 2. Cool. (Oh, the ice-themed puns continue!) Alright, enough horsing around, let's get into the juicy stories, shall we?
10. Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Will Be A Trilogy
Back in September Warner Bros. announced that JK Rowling would be writing the screenplay for a Harry Potter spinoff, based on the fictional Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. Not much news has come out since then, but earlier this week we got word that they're going to stretch the story into a trilogy of "megamovies." Considering the Harry Potter films brought in over $8 billion at the box office, it makes sense that Warner Bros. would make a move like this. Many might see this as a blatant cash grab, but the good news is that the Fantastic Beasts series won't be a prequel or sequel to the original films, and will instead simply exist in the same world. The story follows the textbook's author, "magizoologist" New Scamander, seventy years before the events of Harry's adventures. With Rowling on board, the trilogy is in good hands, and as an enormous fan of both the books and the films, I can't wait to see what she has in store.
