1. James Avery Passes Away At 68
Sadly, we've lost another actor this week, this time being James Avery. The actor, who was 68, succumed to complications following his open-heart surgery he received in November, and passed away on Tuesday. Avery is best known for his role as Uncle Phil for six seasons of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, though he continued to work steadily in both TV and film up to his death. He guest starred on shows like Hill Street Blues, Grey's Anatomy, CSI, and The Closer. He also worked extensively as a voice actor, playing Shredder in the long-running Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series and Rhodey in the mid 90's Iron Man cartoon. Those who knew him and worked with him have showered his family and friends with words of love and support, recalling how Avery was a teacher, protector, and second father to them. Our condolences go out to Avery's family, friends, and all who knew him. And that concludes this week's WhatCulture News Brief! What did you think of this week's stories?
