5. A Live Action Dumbo Remake Is Coming From The Guy Who Wrote Transformers

Disney No, this is not an April Fool's joke. Go ahead and read that headline again. According to THR, Disney is planning a live-action remake of their beloved 1941 classic Dumbo, and has tapped Transformers scribe Ehren Kruger to pen the script. Kruger will also produce the film, along with Tron: Legacy's Justin Springer. Most of the film will be live-action, with a CGI Dumbo. Considering the original film clocks in at a measly 64 minutes, some padding to the story will occur, and Kruger will reportedly add "a unique family story that parallels Dumbo's story." As groan-inducing as this news is, it comes as no surprise. Disney has had tremendous success (financially, at least) with their live-action remakes. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland made over a billion dollars at the global box office, while this year's Maleficent raked in an impressive $634 million (and counting). The studio isn't showing any signs of stopping either, as they have live-action remakes of Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast on the way as well, from Kenneth Branaugh, Jon Favreau, and Bill Condon, respectively.
