10 Biggest Movie And TV News This Week (July 12)

3. Chris Columbus Will Produce Sequels To The Goonies And Gremlins

Warner Bros.Warner Bros. Those of you who want to keep your precious memories of beloved 80s classics Gremlins and The Goonies intact better just skip on ahead to the next news item, becuase reports are coming in that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone director Chris Columbus is spearheading sequels to both films. He actually wrote both of those movies originally, so if anyone is fit to oversee their return, it's him. Still, it's hard not to get worked up about Hollywood returning to past properties yet again. Warner Bros. has been trying to get another Gremlins movie made for years, and it looks like they're finally getting serious about it. Columbus will produce the film, which is meant to be a sequel-style reboot, set 30 years after the original. Steven Spielberg is likely on board as an executive producer, though original film director Joe Dante probably won't be back. Spielberg and Columbus will team up for the Goonies sequel as well. Unlike Gremlins, this one does have its original director on board, as Richard Donner himself is excited to bring all of the original cast back for another adventure. Since we've been hearing about these films for years now, take the new updates with a grain of salt. There's definitely the chance that they won't materialize, but it seems like the studio and the producers are actually committed this time around.
