6. Bill Condon Will Direct Live Action Beauty And The Beast Reboot

We're about to get a wave of live-action fairy tale/Disney films in the near future. Sofia Coppola has been tapped to bring The Little Mermaid to life, while David Yates is working on Tarzan. We also have two Jungle Book movies in development, one from Andy Serkis and the other from Jon Favreau. James Bobin is helming Disney's Alice in Wonderland sequel, Through the Looking Glass, Kenneth Branagh is hard at work on Cinderella, and there's been talk of a live-action Cruella de Vil movie out there somewhere as well (produced by none other than past live-action Cruella Glenn Close.) The next movie to add to the heaping pile of reimaginings is Beauty and the Beast. There have been several live-action takes on the classic, each with varying degrees of success. While many fondly remember the Disney animated film, the story actual stems from the traditional fairy tale published in 1740 by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. This new version will also be a Disney film, and will be directed by Dreamgirls and Twilight: Breaking Dawn helmer Bill Condon. No word yet on whether or not the movie will be a musical, though Condon's resume would certainly imply that it's a possibility. Source: Variety
