10 Biggest Movie And TV News This Week (May 24)

2. Gareth Edwards Will Direct First Star Wars Spin-Off For 2016

garethedwards600 Gareth Edwards has been enjoying quite the week, after his latest film Godzilla earned about $100 million in its opening weekend. Not only is he now signed on for two kaiju-sized sequels, but he's just landed another coveted gig, this time over at Disney: He'll be directing the very first Star Wars spin-off, which will arrive in December 2016. At this point in time we have no idea what movie this will end up being, though rumors have been circulating that it could be a Boba Fett solo film. We've also heard reports that the studio is interested in Han Solo and Yoda origin films, so those are possibilities as well. Edwards is the perfect choice for a Star Wars spin-off, and it will be great to see what he does with the galaxy far, far away. He himself chimed in on the news, stating:
€œEver since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life €“ join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited & honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm."
Bravo, Mr. Edwards, bravo. Now just get a Jedi and a Sith together and have someone say, "Let them fight," and you can just take our money now.
