Roberto Orci will make his directorial debut with Star Trek 3, which is a hefty undertaking, to say the least. He's coming to the film prepared, though, and has hired an Academy Award-winning cinematographer to film the movie. According to TrekMovie, Life of Pi cinematographer Claudio Miranda will shoot Star Trek 3. Miranda replaces Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness cinematographer Daniel Mindel, who along with several Trek crew members abandoned ship in favor of working on Star Wars: Episode VII with J.J. Abrams. This is a big win for Orci, as Miranda's resume includes some stunning work in films like Life of Pi, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, TRON: Legacy, and Oblivion. He's worked with David Fincher several times in the past and recently shot Brad Bird's latest film, Tomorrowland.
