According to Deadline, Roberto Orci has dropped out of executive producing Legendary Pictures and Haim Saban's reboot of the popular Power Rangers franchise. Orci boarded the project in mid-July, but has had to leave due to a scheduling conflict with his directorial debut: a little film you may have heard of called Star Trek 3. Described as a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, this reboot will center on a group of high school kids who are infused with unique superpowers, and must learn to harness them as a team to save the world. Thor and X-Men: First Class scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are working on the script. Despite Orci's departure, Power Rangers is still expected to meet its July 22, 2016 release date. With Orci's track record, however, many fans will likely wish that he'd made the opposite choice, and abandoned ship on Trek 3 instead.
