6. It Could Be R-Rated - The New Mutants

The production and release of Fox's The New Mutants has been a big ol' mess for a while now. Though far from a disaster, its numerous release date delays and production setbacks have sucked away most of the hype that was generated by a pretty terrific first trailer.

With the final product still being shaped, one factor that hasn't been decided yet is the film's rating. Initially, it seemed destined for an R, with that trailer giving off a full-on horror vibe. However, when director Josh Boone told Empire Magazine (via CBM) it would be PG-13, it seemed like the movie would be heading down the financially-safer route, rather than taking a risk like Logan and Deadpool.

But the story of New Mutants' rating isn't over quite yet, because there's a chance it could be rated R after all. In a recent chat with Collider, producer Simon Kinberg stated that “it’s the kind of movie that could go R, or it could be a hard PG-13... the studio is open to either rating."

With Disney acquiring Fox in the near future, it's hard to imagine the family-friendly studio approving and releasing a superhero horror film, but then again, if Disney retains the Fox brand and releases The New Mutants under that umbrella, it could receive a more adult rating.

Or, y'know, they could just whack it on their streaming service and be done with it.
