8. How Did Moody See Through The Cloak?

Harry Potter's invisibility cloak is a thing of wonder: a cloak of true invisibility, and the same one that was created by Death, it is completely impenetrable. Or at least, it should be.

There are, however, two instances in the series when people can seemingly see through the cloak. The first comes when Dumbledore witnesses Harry in front of the Mirror of Erised. Not only does he admit that he doesn't need a cloak to become invisible - itself a mystery - but it's unclear how he knows Harry is there. Rowling has admitted that the headmaster used the spell homenum revelio to see Harry and Ron under the cloak in Hagrid's, so perhaps the same thing happened here, or maybe it's just an invisible thing.

The next is even harder to explain, with Alastor Moody - and more specifically, his mad eye - seeing Harry under the cloak. He, too, could've silently used a spell, but what we're clearly meant to believe is that his eye can actually see through it, which goes unexplained and doesn't seem to make any sense unless it's ridiculously powerful. No wonder Umbridge wanted it.
